Examples of municipal activities Voluntary Local Review, VLR: An example of municipal implementation of the 2030 Agenda in the Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region
A binding resolution to prepare a Voluntary Local Review as a voluntary sustainability report was passed on 11 November 2022. During the preparation of this review, particular emphasis was placed on the involvement of internal specialist departments and the municipalities in the region, and on collaboration and exchange with external partners in order to ensure the greatest possible transparency, comprehensive consideration of issues and identification with the contents of the report.
The basis for the selection of the Sustainable Development Goals considered in the review is the feedback from the population of the Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region. As a voluntary local review, the report presents the current status of sustainable development in the Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region. For five priority SDGs, the background, current status, ongoing activities, goals and challenges are examined. The focus is on the goals of quality education (SDG 4), affordable and clean energy (SDG 7), designing sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11), responsible consumption and production patterns (SDG 12) and action on climate change (SDG 13). The review is intended to be the starting point for a continuous improvement process that will make the region fit for the future.
